    Key dates

    The Canadian tax calendar

The dates that matter most for the 2026 tax year, filed in 2027. When a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, the CRA generally moves it to the next business day.

    RRSP deadlineMarch 1, 2027

Contributions made in the first 60 days of 2027 can still count toward your 2026 return. It's the last chance to lower 2026 taxable income with an RRSP contribution — plan it in February, not at 11 p.m. on deadline day.

    Apr 30

    T1 filing & payment deadline — 2027

Most individuals file and pay by April 30, 2027. Interest on a balance owing starts the next day, whether or not the return itself is late.

    Jun 15

    Self-employed filing deadline — 2027

Sole proprietors (and their spouses) get until June 15, 2027 to file — but any balance owing was still due April 30.

    Jun 15

    Annual GST/HST return — 2027

Self-employed annual GST/HST filers file and pay by June 15, 2027 (payment of net tax owing is due April 30 for most).

    6 months

    Corporate T2 deadline

A T2 is due six months after your corporation's fiscal year-end — December year-ends file by June 30. Balance owing is usually due two months after year-end (three for many CCPCs).

Heads-up: CRA pre-filled returns are coming

The CRA is launching pre-filled returns in March 2027 — about a million Canadians with simple situations will be invited to review and approve a return the CRA prepared, expanding toward 5.5 million by 2029. If your year involved a business, a rental, investments, or a move, a prepared-for-you return won't catch what a review would. Read the CRA's announcement.

    Tax tips

    Three habits that grow refunds

The same three tips from our social series — small habits, real money.

    Tip one

    Organize receipts year-round

One folder — paper or phone photos — for medical receipts, donations, childcare, and business expenses as they happen. April-you will thank January-you, and nothing gets forgotten.

    Tip two

    Contribute to your RRSP

RRSP contributions reduce taxable income dollar for dollar. Check your available room on your CRA notice of assessment, and weigh RRSP vs. TFSA based on your tax bracket today vs. at retirement.

    Tip three

    Claim every deduction you're owed

Home-office expenses, union dues, moving costs for a new job, carrying charges, medical expenses over 12 months — the commonly missed ones add up fast. Ask before you assume it doesn't count.

    Questions

    Before you ask

With electronic filing and direct deposit, the CRA typically issues refunds in about two weeks; paper returns take much longer. We file electronically and confirm your notice of assessment when it arrives.

Yes. We regularly prepare returns going back several years. If you're owed refunds, they're still claimable; if you owe, filing voluntarily is almost always better than waiting for the CRA to come to you. Bring whatever slips you have — your CRA account usually holds the rest.

Don't ignore it, and don't panic — most are routine review letters asking for receipts to support a claim. Note the deadline on the letter, gather the documents it lists, and bring it to us. We respond to the CRA on your behalf and file an adjustment if something needs correcting.

It depends on your income, how much of it you need personally, liability, and whether you can leave money in the corporation to benefit from the small-business tax rate. It's a planning conversation worth having before you register — book a consultation and we'll run your numbers both ways.

Yes — we're based in Brampton, Ontario, and most of the process works virtually: secure document sharing, a review call, and electronic signatures for the forms the CRA requires. In-person appointments are available in Brampton if you prefer paper and a handshake.

It depends on complexity — a single T4 is very different from a corporation with payroll. Start with the form below describing your situation and you'll get a clear quote before any work begins. No surprise invoices.

    Start your file

Tell us about your situation and the form builds a tidy intake summary you can download or copy — bring it to your consultation, or send it ahead when you reach out. It covers the details that decide your quote and your checklist.

    • ✓No obligation — the summary is yours either way.
    • ✓New clients welcome for the 2026 tax year, plus prior-year catch-ups.
    • ✓Businesses: ask about bookkeeping and GST/HST packages alongside your T2.
